School age is a time of continual social, physical, cognitive and emotional development. Children are developing close friendships, becoming more physically active, learning concepts, and developing strong emotions.
Physical Skills:
Motor skills vary widely
Development in sexual characteristics such as facial hair, developing breasts, change in voice, etc
Height and weight varies
Cognitive Skills:
Advance decision-making skills develop
Starting to develop own identity
Comprehend abstract thinking
Ability to follow 5 command instructions
Social and Emotional Skills:
Ability to see other people’s points of view
Develops friendships
Ability to have self-control with fewer outbursts and angry episodes
Being self-conscious is common
Language Skills:
Ability to use complex sentences
Syntax and pronunciation is normal
Correct usage of language
